Mobile Home Skirting Calculator

Having a mobile home skirting calculator is an important tool for any homeowner.

If you are looking to purchase or upgrade your existing skirting, then you must know exactly what kind of measurements and materials you will need before beginning the process.

Not having all of this information can lead to costly mistakes in the long run if something doesn’t fit properly once installed.

Understanding how much material is needed and knowing the right dimensions to get accurate results will help make sure that you have everything on hand when it comes time for installation day.

Understanding the Right Dimensions

Mobile homes are not standard in terms of size. You cannot simply go to your local home improvement store and purchase pre-sized skirting panels which match the width and height dimensions of your mobile home.

Instead, you will need to determine what kind of measurements you need beforehand so that your order is accurate.

The following information can help you figure out just how much material is needed for installation.

Width Measurements

The overall width dimension of a mobile home exterior wall has two different measurements to it: Mobile Home Skirting Calculator – Understanding Width Measurements

Exterior Wall Width

This refers to the actual width measurement which includes both sides of each exterior wall inside of the mobile home where skirting pieces are attached.

This width is NOT the same as the exterior roofline of your mobile home, which includes more than just the wall area.

Because of this, you will need to make sure that you are measuring both the front and back walls (the side walls) of your mobile home to get an accurate measurement for what size skirting material is needed.

Exterior Roof Line Width

This refers to the actual width measurement which only includes the outside portion of each exterior wall where skirting pieces are attached.

The roofline does not include any of the interior space inside of your mobile home where panelling or drywall may be present; it simply measures the outside portion of the wall from one side to the other.

To avoid any confusion, you will need both measurements when going through your mobile home skirting materials to find what kind of skirting is needed for your particular home.

Exterior Roof Line Height

Just like the exterior wall height, this refers to the height measurement from the top exterior bottom edge of each exterior wall down to where it meets with the ground level at the base.

However, this measurement includes only the roofline portion but not anything else which is included inside your mobile home.

If you are looking for an accurate size for covering just your exterior walls and not much more, then you will need to take both measurements so that you know how much material is needed to cover up just your outside walls.

Determining Material Size Based on Your Mobile Home The overall length and width dimensions for skirting pieces for your mobile home are going to come in a standard size that can be found at most home improvement stores or lumberyards.

You cannot go into these places and expect them to know how to cut skirting pieces for a specific mobile home because there are so many different sizes out there.

So, if you have an odd-sized mobile home either due to the length, width or both, you will need to determine what this measurement is before purchasing any materials.

If you get the measurements wrong and purchase panels that are too big, then it could lead to gaps between each paneling piece which makes your entire installation look sloppy and unprofessional.

Generally speaking, most mobile home skirting materials come in standard sizes which are typically 3-4 feet wide and anywhere from 14 to 20 feet long.

If your home fits into the typical measurements then you will be able to purchase specific skirting panels that can cover up all four of the exterior walls for your specific home without any issues.

However, if you have an odd-sized mobile home, these typical sizes might not work for you so you will need to find out what size your home truly is before purchasing any material.

Understanding Mobile Home Sizing Measurements

Width: You can easily measure this by taking a tape measure or ruler and putting it up against one side wall inside your mobile home just below the roofline and extending it out to the other side.

You will need to repeat this for all four exterior walls to get an accurate measurement of their width.

If you have a very odd-sized mobile home, then you might even want to go one step further and measure how wide your door openings are just in case they’re not standard either.

Length: This is going to be the hardest measurement to take because if your mobile home is longer than normal, then you will either need help standing there taking measurements or invest in a product called a laser measuring device which can easily be found online through many different retailers.

Height: Once again, this refers only to the exterior wall height which includes the roofline that extends down to the foundation and not inside your mobile home.

Mobile Homes with Hip Roofs: These roofs are going to be more difficult to cover up with skirting material because there is no flat surface area like a gable roof provides.

However, this does not mean that you cannot cover them up with skirting panels but rather it may require you to purchase more than one set of standard-sized panels to get enough coverage for your entire mobile home.

How To Install Mobile Home Skirting?

Once you have purchased all of your skirting material and it’s ready for installation, then the first thing that you need to do is take everything outside and lay each piece out in the exact spot where it will eventually be installed.

At this time, you also need to make sure that everything is nice and smooth out so there aren’t any jagged or broken edges that can cause problems during installation.

When it comes to skirting material for these mobile homes, one size will not fit all because no two roofs are the same.

Most panels come in the standard 3-4 feet wide but hip roof coverings will typically require anywhere from 6 to 8 feet instead of just 4.

This means that you might even have to purchase two different sets to get enough coverage for your home’s exterior walls Skirting Panels With Sides:

If you’re dealing with skirting panels that have sides on them, then you will need to take special precautions during installation because these can easily scratch up your mobile home’s exterior if not handled with care.

As a result, it is highly recommended to lay a tarp down first before beginning this process and also make sure that the ground where you will be walking is very flat and even.

How much skirting do I need for a mobile home?

I’m building a 10’x40′ mobile home and just wondering how much skirting I need to buy.

What’s the best way to figure this out? Is there a formula or something?

Skirtboard is designed for use on trailers. The standard length is 4 feet with multiples sold in 2, 3 and 5-foot lengths.

Essentially you simply multiply the total length of the trailer by two (2) and that is the number of linear feet you will need. If it’s an 8ft wide trailer then: 8 x 2 = 16 ft of skirt needed etc.

Some people prefer using multiple smaller pieces but we don’t recommend it as you will end up gaps after installation even if you do a great job sealing it.

Also, as the trailer rolls down the road, these pieces tend to come apart and create problems, especially on windy days! We also recommend buying some extra just in case you make a mistake during installation so you can start over.
